Oral cancer prevention

Every year more than 13.000 people in Germany are diagnosed with cancer in mouth and throat areas. Oral cancer is a tumour which mainly affects men and which can occur in all areas of the buccal mucose, including the lips. This disease does not occur suddenly but develops in phases which a dentist can recognise with the naked eye.

The affected areas are not painful and hence affected persons are often not aware of their condition. Oral cancer can also develop from poorly healing small changes or permanent irritations. If you are in doubt about an irritated area in your mouth, raise it at your next dentist’s appointment.
